How to take the measurements?
Stand the horse square and balanced on all four legs, on flat ground. With a flexible measuring tape: measure the heart girth by going around the chest just behind the withers and elbows (at the girth line), then the body length from the point of the shoulder to the point of the buttock. The tool then applies the heart-girth formula: weight ≈ girth² × length ÷ divisor (11877 for a riding horse, adjusted for a pony or a draught horse).

Knowing the weight then lets you calculate the ration as precisely as possible and track the horse's condition over time in GaloPlan's shared activity log.
To put the result in context, see the average horse weights by breed and type (from the Shetland to the draught horse).
